Brad Pitt tore his Achilles tendon while playing Achilles. That's not a joke. It happened during the first fight scene in the film.

He executed a flying leap, landed badly, and was out for roughly two months. He called it "stupid irony."

Director Wolfgang Petersen said you can actually see it on Pitt's face when he lands. The injury forced the production to split the film's biggest fight sequence across two separate shoots. Achilles and Hector sized each other up in September. They didn't actually fight until December.

Combined with a hurricane that destroyed the Troy set in Mexico, the production ballooned past $200 million.
