The film is built around what Stanton calls an existential problem: kids stopped playing with toys. The antagonist is a tablet shaped like a frog. The toys are up against it.
The horse character Daffodil took over a year to build, rig, and animate. Taylor Swift contributed an original song. Randy Newman returned for his tenth Pixar collaboration. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack all came back.
If you grew up with the first three, the original director being back matters. Watch Toy Story 4 first if you need the setup. It is still playing wide.
