Super Troopers 2 almost didn't happen. Broken Lizard ran an Indiegogo campaign in 2015. More than 50,000 fans put in $4.4 million to prove an audience existed. That got Searchlight Pictures to say yes to a sequel. It opened in 2018. Made $32 million on a $13.5 million budget.
So when Broken Lizard pitched Super Troopers 3, Searchlight already knew the math. No crowdfunding needed this time. Just greenlit.
It still took seven years. Jay Chandrasekhar announced the title "Winter Soldiers" the week ST2 opened. Script drafts ran through 2022. Production finally started in August 2025, in Massachusetts pretending to be Vermont again. (None of the three films have ever actually filmed in Vermont.)
All five Broken Lizard members are back, plus Hannah Simone, Chace Crawford, and Nat Faxon. It opens August 6.
