Power Ballad is in theaters now, and John Carney is 3 for 3 making films about music and the people who never quite get what they're owed.
Paul Rudd plays Rick, a wedding singer past his prime. During a gig he meets Danny, a fading pop star played by Nick Jonas. They bond over a late night jam session. Danny takes one of Rick's songs, turns it into a hit, and reignites his own career. Rick wants credit. The film is about what happens when he goes looking for it.
Carney made Once and Sing Street. He has not made a bad music film yet. This one has Paul Rudd in a role that suits him better than most things he's been given.
