The film visits New Orleans, Ohio, New York, Tuscany, Barcelona, and Squamish. It shot almost all of it in just two places: New Orleans and Spain.
Poppy's New York apartment was built on a Barcelona soundstage. The Tuscany villa was a 12th-century Catalan farmhouse, and they had to move the cattle to use it. A tree plantation outside Barcelona doubled for British Columbia. A reservoir in Catalonia became a Canadian river.
Director Brett Haley cast Tom Blyth and Emily Bader after a single Zoom chemistry read. They had never met in person before.
The film is Emily Henry's first novel to reach the screen, with Henry herself serving as executive producer. She approved.
People on Backlot are watching this one. It's on Netflix now.
