Robert Eggers told Alexander Skarsgård he had a Viking movie for him before he actually had one. The concept came later.
By March 2020, Skarsgård had already spent months building the physique the role required. COVID cancelled everything. He started the whole process over for the August restart.
The trainer's goal: "We needed him to look like a bear but move like a wolf."
Eggers also lost final cut for the first time in his career. And the Old Norse dialogue in the finished film isn't what was shot. Test screenings found it too hard to follow, so new dialogue was dubbed in post.
