The Babadook Producers' Next Film Is Leviticus

By The Backlot

@backlotfriends

Two teenage boys lie on crinkled plastic sheeting in a dark space, shot from directly above, each turned toward the other.

The producers who made The Babadook have a new film out. Leviticus opened June 17. Kristina Ceyton and Samantha Jennings of Causeway Films produced it. The director is Adrian Chiarella, who also wrote the script.

The setup is elemental. Two teenage boys must escape a violent entity. The entity takes the form of the person each boy desires most. For both of them, that turns out to be each other.

Mia Wasikowska is in the cast and also serves as executive producer. Nicholas Hope plays a character called Deliverance Healer. The title starts to make sense.

It's a horror film about desire as threat. Screen Australia and VicScreen backed it. The Babadook made a monster from grief. This one makes a monster from wanting.

In theaters now.
