Tarantino wrote the role of Bill for Warren Beatty. Beatty turned it down. He didn't want to spend months away from his family.

Bruce Willis was considered next. Then David Carradine got the part.

The film itself started as a conversation between Tarantino and Uma Thurman on the set of Pulp Fiction. The story credit reads "Q & U." By the time Tarantino sat down to write it, Thurman had become a mother. The Bride's grief over a stolen child came from watching that happen in real life.

Warren Beatty as Bill is not the movie that exists. The one that does is better for it.
