When those agents connected him with director Carolina Cavalli, she expected a general conversation about the industry. He wanted the actual role.
Pine took a supporting part in a 33-day shoot across northern Italy, playing an author too proud of his own work in Cavalli's deadpan Italian dramedy. The film premiered in the Orizzonti section at Venice, where Benedetta Porcaroli won Best Actress. Cavalli said Pine embraced the shoot as an adventure.
