In John Wick (2014), someone describes Wick as the man who once killed three men in a bar with a pencil. You never see it. For Chapter 2, that scene was not guaranteed to happen.
Keanu Reeves had to push for it. "I really fought for getting the pencil fight," he said. "It was talked about in the first one and I was like, guys, we gotta do a pencil fight."
He also recruited Laurence Fishburne personally. They hadn't shared a major film since The Matrix Revolutions. Reeves was visiting Fishburne's house when he realized there was a role.
Chapter 2 has the pencil, Rome, and Fishburne. That's a lot of reasons to watch. People on Backlot are doing exactly that right now. It's on Hulu.
