Sam Raimi didn't hold an audition for Evil Dead Burn. He watched Infested, a 2023 French horror film about a spider infestation, and called Sébastien Vaniček directly.

Infested was Vaniček's debut. It made him a name on the horror festival circuit. Raimi saw it, hired him, and gave him creative control to bring a French sensibility to the franchise.

The result is in theaters now. Evil Dead Burn opened July 10 and has made $67 million on a $20 million budget. It's the sixth Evil Dead film and a sequel to Evil Dead Rise.

If Infested interests you, it's on Shudder. Watch it first. You'll understand what Raimi saw.
