In 2008, David Slade said this on radio: "Twilight drunk? No, not even drunk. Twilight on acid? No, not even on acid. Twilight at gunpoint? Just shoot me."
He was already signed to direct the third film when that clip surfaced in May 2009. Fans were furious. Slade had to write a public letter to the biggest Twilight fan site.
In it, he said he had never seen the movie or read the books when he made those comments. He had since read them and was "quickly consumed with the rich storytelling and the beautifully honest characters."
Slade had made Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night before this. He had to publicly prove, in writing, that he respected the source material. Then he made Eclipse.
Someone on Backlot just watched it. Worth revisiting.
