Cillian Murphy was a student in Cork when he first played Pig. Enda Walsh wrote the role for him in five days, for a production that was supposed to run two weeks.
It toured the UK instead. It won festivals. By the time Kirsten Sheridan adapted it for her feature debut, five years had passed.
She brought Murphy back. He had been living with this character since he was a teenager. His words: "Everybody knows Disco Pigs changed everything for me. It was the first thing I ever did, and it formed me totally."
This is not the Cillian Murphy you know from Oppenheimer or Peaky Blinders. This is where he started. Young, raw, Cork accent thick, and nothing like anything he has done since.
