Disclosure Day is Spielberg and Janusz Kamiński's 21st film together. They have been working together since Schindler's List. They shot this one on 35mm.
That matters because the movie is about surveillance, tracked data, and a government hiding the truth. Spielberg and Kamiński wanted the images to feel chemical, not processed. Kamiński said it directly: the film goes to the lab, it comes out, and that is when everyone sees what it looks like.
The train sequence is 90 percent live photography. The train was moving.
Emily Blunt plays a TV meteorologist in Kansas City who gains access to something the government has been hiding. Josh O'Connor plays the person who stole it.
Still in theaters. If you grew up on Close Encounters or E.T., Spielberg is back in that register.
