DC opens in US theaters August 7. The lead is Lokesh Kanagaraj, the director of Vikram, Master, and Kaithi. One of the most celebrated filmmakers in Tamil cinema. Playing an actor for the first time.

His reasoning: curiosity. "Being on a different set before moving on to my next film gave me a chance to learn something new," he told reporters at Cannes, where the trailer premiered. When asked if he'd act again: "I don't think so."

DC is a loose adaptation of Devdas, the 1917 novel about a doomed romantic rebel. Director Arun Matheswaran reframes it as a violent action thriller. Music by Anirudh Ravichander.

If you haven't seen Vikram, watch it first. Then buy a ticket.
