In October 1986, Reagan and Gorbachev sat across from each other in Reykjavik, Iceland and nearly agreed to eliminate every nuclear weapon both countries had. They didn't. The deal fell through in the final hours over missile defense.
Director Michael Russell Gunn spent years researching the summit. He interviewed the actual George Shultz, Reagan's Secretary of State who was in that room, and Shultz gave him the declassified official transcripts from those conversations. The film was shot in Höfði House, the actual building in Iceland where it happened.
Jeff Daniels plays Reagan. Jared Harris plays Gorbachev. J.K. Simmons plays Shultz.
It opens in US theaters August 14 via Angel Studios.
If you liked Bridge of Spies, this is the one where you know how the negotiations end and still can't breathe.
